Title: The brc/dsc challenge
Post by: wildhorse on February 01, 2016, 07:20:16 PM
I believe this is the best conference tournament in the state.  All three divisions, many state place winners and a preview of regional battles.  Your thoughts.

Lets get together with the Middle Border and have a BRC/DSC/Middle Border mega tournament.  River Falls could handle it. 32 man brackets for the 20 teams

Would be fun but would a two day conference tourny be the best for the kids at that time? Unless went just single elimination.

This is a good tournament but I would not mind having it a week earlier.  The competition is really tough and it would be nice to have a little more time to heal any injuries before Regionals.  Just an idea.

IMHO, I think the timing is perfect!

Great competition from all three divisions against guys that you won't see again in the following three weeks is a nice tune up for the tournament run.

Stay healthy wrestlers, good luck down the stretch!

anderson
phillips
hatch
berg
schlough
schlough
koski
Hurlburt (McDevitt could make this interesting)
Schmidt
Johnson
Anderson (The 3rd time will get closer as did the 2nd with Joles)
Williamson
Stokke (Can Hofacker make it closer?)
Schindler (Barn burner of a weight!)

170/182 are worth the price of admission alone!

Well at 285 there at least 5 ranked wrestlers and it will be a toss up...fun to watch that one...Stokke at 220..Highly doubt there will be a point scored against him unless he lets somebody up intentionally. If Johnson and Masse are both at 170........I'm going with the senior as he is on a mission this season. I don't even have a horse in this race tomorrow but still very excited to watch the competition this year. ;)

We already wrestle that tournament, but it's called the Northern Badger.

Sorry Fish..... this would be better than the Northern Badger....

Having Hudson, Ellsworth, New Richmond, Amery, Menomonie and a few more I can't think of would make it a better tournament.. :o

They are both impressive wrestlers. I feel Johnson's success against a battle tested Massie will come down to whether or not his lack of mat time is a factor. I think he can win, but also think Massie is a much more controlled and methodical wrestler.

Yes it would.  As I recall, they used to.  It would definitely make it a tougher tournament (not that it isn't already darn tough), but I suspect these teams see enough of each other and want some new experiences.

I was looking for these results on Trackwrestling and couldn't locate them. Does the tournament (and some other ones as well) use an alternative system for disseminating detailed results? In this internet age, I can't understand why the sport wouldn't make these results in a timely manner. Any answers out there?

Thanks.

I was looking under Track Wrestling, but I could only trace this BRC/DSC tourney back to 2008. How long has this combined conference tourney existed? It certainly must be one of the strongest combined conf tourneys in the state! I was reading in the Middle Border thread that our local  Hunter Marko was a 4 time conf champ this year and I thought I would check  Track Wrestling to see who How many 4 time champs the BRC/DSC tourney has had. Does anyone know when this tourney started?

2005 I believe, if you type in Big River in the search function for tournaments you will get the first few as well.

Massie from Hudson won his 4th BRC/DSC title this weekend.

2005 I believe, if you type in Big River in the search function for tournaments you will get the first few as well.
I'm fairly certain the first year was 2003. I believe the first time it was held at UW-Stout's Johnson Field House.

Could very well be, just know checking track for results will only get to 2005 unless first two years it was called something else.

From what I understand there were 2 talented wrestlers at 106 @ EC North but their coach does not believe in wrestle offs and thus one person was excluded. I think there should always be a clear opportunity for someone to wrestle off but that is another topic.
