Manheim, Pa. – With very limited dual meet competition over the holidays, the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll saw no changes as it was released on Tuesday.

Penn State garnered all 12 first-place votes for the fourth straight week and start 2016 with a 6-0 record and an impressive tournament victory at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Jan. 1-1.

Second-ranked Iowa (8-0) captured the 53rd Ken Kraft Midlands Championship in Evanston, Ill. Third-ranked N.C. State (11-0) also competed at the Midlands, finishing fourth.

Missouri (5-0) remained No. 4, while Virginia Tech (4-1) was one of the few teams that did see dual meet action. The Hokies topped in-state rival George Mason 32-11 on January 3.

The only matchup with ranked teams took place in the Big Ten as No. 6 Ohio State improved to 5-1 after a 22-17 win at Illinois on January 3. The Fighting Illini dropped to 8-1.

Crazy to see four MAC schools ranked and Northern Iowa or Kent St. Is among them.  Also have to love what the ACC has been doing.

I have to believe the UW would beat Indiana, just seems so wrong to see them ranked ahead of Wisconsin.

How is Wisconsin getting any votes?  They don't have NDSU or SDSU getting any votes.  Both better programs than the Badgers.

Why is ODU so depressing?  I believe the have beaten the badgers the last three duals.  Recruit from the east and are on the ocean.  Why wouldn't they be better?

Okie State is not on the ocean, neither is PSU (and many others).

My point was why is Old Dominion depressing?  Why should WI be ahead of them in rankings, recruiting, or in state talent?

Micah

I have been impressed with ODU the last few years.  They had a few really tough guys at NCAAs.  I think joining the MAC has helped them.

I can't believe the state of NC has two in the rankings and a third getting votes.  For a state with average to below average HS wrestling they are doing really well.  NCST is ranked third, still don't believe it when I read it.

I said earlier I don't think someone can coach and compete and be successful.  Coleman Scott is proving me wrong.  I think a Dake, Taylor, Stieber or Burroughs would be a great hire by any team.  Especially with the name recognition you would get with HS kids.
