Title: SWAL / SWC Clash 2016
Post by: ankle pick on January 28, 2016, 09:06:48 AM
Who's going to win this thing?  I think Valley has enough this year to take it all, but Mineral Point and Fennimore will be right there with them.

Anybody want to take a stab at individual champs?  Here is mine.

106.  Licht - River Valley
113.  Sarbacker- Iowa Grant
120.  Lull - Fennimore
126.  Nutter - Fennimore
132.  Maylor - Iowa Grant
138.  Forseth - Mineral Point
145.  Donar  - Cuba City
152.  Roen - Riverdale
160.  Alt - River Valley
170.  Pittz - Mineral Point
182.  Blosch - Darlington
195.  Troxel - Riverdale
220.  Wetter - Dodgeville
285.  Obrien - Fennimore

Pretty much agree with you JW on your picks. I think haffield nutter is going to be good. I heard that either Blair or Lull will be at113 and the other at 120. Also Beers was at 120 last night.

Anyone have any idea how the dual between Fennimore and Mineral Point went?  Could have big implications for the Clash and Regional seeding.

Fennimore won the dual 32 to 25? They won a couple matches I thought point would win and point gave up some bonus points where I thought they wouldn't.

Fennimore will have a couple wild cards at the lower weights. Lull beats whoever is at 120 or 113. The Blair kid has bulldog blood and could also be on top of the podium.

As always there will be some very good finals matches between highly ranked kids. I was hoping that Pittz would go to 160 and wrestle alt. Liegel and Roen will be another good one. It would be cool if they did random draw for the finals.

Jw Pittz can't go to 160 to wrestle Alt. He wrestled 195 last night. In order to wrestle that he had to weigh in at 173. Can't drop to 163 by rule.
I thought the two schimt boys losing diffently hurt mp last night. More Boone than anything. Wardell should have been nailed for stalling in that last 20 seconds, but there was no way Kurt was calling that.

Ok I may be wrong on this but if Pittz weighed in at 164 last night he can go up 2 weight classes and wrestle 195 and still make 160 tourney time.Is this right?

The way I understand it is you can only go up one weight class. You can lose a half pound a day. To wrestle 160 at conference he would've had to weigh 165ish last night, to go 160 at regionals 170? He will be fine. He looks big and healthy at 170 and could add to the list of MP state champs this year.

Hyde, I also agree with you. A lot of defense from the yellow singlets. There were times when it appeared a few of the Fenn. kids could've really opened up, but were content to hang on for the win.

You can wrestle up one weight class. If he weighed 162.1, he could wrestle 170 or 182.

I was thinking the same about the conference duals. That would be awesome! We all have our favorites. I will stick by my statement for nothing more than some conversation provoking banter!

JW - that was quite a homer post.  lol

106 - it would be Shea - with probably a win
120 - not a MD
126 - not a pin
160 - Toss up
220 - Gorr I think would win

But here is where the conferences separate.

Put your second place finishers against Badgers second place finishers and third against third.   Probably would have a few Badger dual blowouts.  At the very top - pretty even, but not when it comes to depth IMO

Electric- thanks for the "homer" label. I just posted predictions from badger conf. thread and same from clash. You could be right at the lower weights, I haven't seen the Stoughton boys wrestle. Lull is pretty good and Nutter is a thrower and a pinner. 220, I will stick with my pick, based on Bi-State results. Badger Conf. should have more depth, since most are D1 or big D2 schools. Either way, would be a fun dual to watch and to talk about.

Didn't Hemauer beat Alt this year pretty handily?
Title: Re: SWAL / SWC Clash 2016

I wouldn't say handily. It was something like 6-3or 6-4 with 20 seconds left or so and Alt tried to throw. Got caught and gave up 2td and 2nf

JW don't wanna come out and say his boy handled Gorr pretty easily at bistate. Watched online and 6 for the swal there.

Once I saw RV only had 11 I figured it would be difficult for them. Placing down to 8th favors the full rosters.

Alt just went up to wrestle pittz.
I thought Pittz looked tough. If he wrestles that way the rest of February.  Look out!

I was really impressed by a few kids who wrestled extremely well yesterday. I am sure I will miss some, but Pittz and Alt didn't disappoint. I think both are very good, but Scottie looked all of 170, and giving up a solid ten pounds was Alts downfall. Troxel match was pretty exciting even though he was never in danger of losing. Licht and Weigel was exciting. 113 had some "junk" in the match that was uncalled for and hopefully both those boys clean it up. Nutter is great and wrestled a good match. After "the incident" it was really hard to cheer for the Fennimore kids. The match that started "the incident" was a great match. Terrible that both adult parties involved acted the way they did.

I toldly agree with you jw52.  If I was in charge at Riverdale next Saturday. I wouldn't let either one of those guys in the school. Hopefully the two guys realize the horrible thing they did.

Wardell, he might be a volunteer coach but he was coaching at some point throughout the day from the coaches chair on mat.  Once he got in the altercation that's when the decision was made to deduct team points.  Too bad it went that far.  Wardell missed his kids third place match that was pretty much with 5 seconds left and down by one point before he threw a head steal and got the takedown before time ran out.

Wardell and a Riverdale fan. I don't know for sure who started it. Shouldn't matter. I have know Idea why mineral point was so dumb and put Riverdale, Fennimore and River Vally all in one section. It wasn't good all day. My only thought was that they wanted the other side of the gym for themselves.

They should've cuffed him up and taken him to county. No place for doing that there. They knew each other, Wardell defected from riverdale. Kind of ironic since Wardell sucker punched the other guy, I felt that the fennimore program walked away with the black eye.

Side note, the second most classless thing I saw was the ref (Kurt laird) screaming at the liegels, who were questioning his call. Which was a terrible call IMO. There was a coach there who deserved to be told to sit down and shut up, but Ralph and Scott were on the bottom of that list.

Kurt loves to put on a show. Look at me!!!  That one was pretty bad. Nutter not getting called for cations was bad. I don't think Harry could see him moving his ankle after he was set. That's why the second ref need to say something. At least the matches don't really count

As far as RV winning if they had 3 more wrestlers you could say the last place team would have won if they had 10 more good wrestlers. As far as the Nutter Hatfield match I don't think the cautions by either wrestler, called or not called, was a factor in the match as it was not that close.  Cautions are not worth 5 points.  As far as the incident I would hope to never see anything like that at a wrestling match, there is no place for it.  Im guessing that guy will have to answer for that in some type of legal setting.

Overall there are a lot of adults that acted very unsportsmanlike.  There was a very negative vibe in that gym that day for people loudly rooting against kids.  I think some adults forget it is about the kids and the kids definitely didn't do anything wrong, they were there competing and working as hard as they could toward their goals.
