UWEC's Drexler wins WIAC title
UW-Eau Claire junior Jake Drexler won a WIAC wrestling championship at 149 pounds, highlighting a strong showing for the Blugolds on Sunday. Drexler is the Blugolds' first conference champion since 2006.
Eau Claire took second in the team standings at the conference championships, their best-ever finish as a squad. Evan Lawrence (174) and Mason Hawkins (285) both earned runner-up finishes, and six Blugolds took third place.
I watched the entire tournament online. I've also watched all of their dual meets. Drexler was a beast in the finals, pinning his opponent in the first period. Every member of the team scored points, with a lot of promise evident among the underclassmen. Eau Claire is definitely a program on the rise. 8)

Fader has done wonders at EC. Proud of what they have accomplished. From all accounts Drexler is a great young man.
