MADISON, Wis. — No. 17 Wisconsin fell to No. 6 Nebraska on Sunday, 28-9, winning three of the 10 bouts.

Eric Barnett got things going for the Badgers, scoring a three-point takedown early in the first period and was able to hold on to secure the 5-3 decision victory against No. 12 Caleb Smith. Barnett's record improves to 18-2 overall in his senior campaign.

No. 5 Dean Hamiti won an gritty match, taking down Nebraska's 18th-ranked Antrell Taylor by a 7-2 decision. On the attack, Hamiti secured a takedown in the first period and then maintained his lead throughout in the win.

Max Maylor continues to impress, securing a 4-2 decision win against No. 33 Bubba Wilson, improving his record to 12-3. Maylor scored an early takedown to take early control of the bout and added a later escape, while denying Wilson any offensive points.

True freshman Julian George made his collegiate dual debut, taking on the top-ranked wrestler in the 149-pound weight class, Ridge Lovett. George scored an escape in a valiant fight, but lost by fall at the 2:34 mark.

Redshirt freshman Gannon Rosenfeld put on a show despite falling short 19-14 in a closely-contested match. Rosenfeld secured three takedowns and two reversals against his opponent Nash Hutmacher, who is a also a defensive lineman for Nebraska's football team. Several leads changes throughout the bout had fans on their feet inside the Field House in the heavyweight battle.

Wisconsin remains home for Big Ten dual action as the Badgers shift heir focus to next Friday, Feb. 2 where they will face unranked Northwestern at home in the UW Field House at 7 p.m. CT. Wisconsin will also travel to Purdue on Sunday, Feb. 4 to wrestle the Boilermakers at Noon in West LaFayette, Indiana. Both dual matches this week will be streamed live on B1G+.

A key point in Rivera's match was in the 2nd period. Nicolar's opponent had basically lost control but Nicolar went for the reversal instead of the escape. Would have saved a riding point and given Nicolar more chances on the feet. Rivera is showing he can get takedowns on good wrestlers but has to get out from the bottom.

Rosenfeld could have easily won. Hutmacher is so big that when Gannon shot low Hutmacher (aka The Polar Bear) crunched him down and spun around. On his takedowns he shot at a higher level. Despite two losses this weekend, Rosenfeld did show he can score from the feet and is improving.

Both very good points. A few weeks ago it was hard find a lot of Big Ten match wins outside of the the 5 ranked guys and I think we were all waiting to see if any of the guys in the other 5 spots could step up. Nicolar is starting to really show some signs of figuring it out (wrestling up a weight) and as I mentioned after the OSU dual, I could see a path to a .500 Big Ten record and single digit seed at the Big Tens for him. Lots to work with there but 100% agree with the point in the 2nd period. We were talking about the same thing as it happened.

Great to see what Gannon was able to accomplish this weekend in 2 losses. Obviously getting stuck under any of the really big heavyweights is not a good idea but he did take some really nice shots and hopefully he can keep building on this.

They both have winnable matches coming up this weekend so looking forward to seeing them wrestle.
