Can't wait to see Carr vs Hamiti
Barnett 4-0
Taylor Lamont 2-0
Zargo 10-0
Gomez Pin
Model 6-2
Hamiti 11-3
4-0 Rocky Jordan over Josh Otto
Dow 5-3 over Desiante
Amos tech over Lewis
Hillger tech
UW 35-3 over UTC
some miscellaneous observations:
1) Barnett and Lamont both looked very tight and wrestled very conservatively. It would have been nice to see them open up
2) Model looked like he was wresting a mirror image of himself. I suspected his gas tank would be the difference, and it was. Even the announcer commented that his opponent wasn't as zippy in the 3rd period : - )
3) Otto needs some offense. He will win very few matches with his current approach
4) Dow needs to shoot. That was incredibly frustrating to watch. Nice win, though
5) Hilger looks MUCH bigger. He was undersized last year after recovering from surgery, but he looks to be back, BABY! He won his 100th match. Wow.
6) I'm a huge Kyle Ruschell fan but his team didn't reflect his aggressive style. I was surprised at the at how much they stalled
7) I was disappointed Rocky Jordan didn't transfer to WI, but he didn't show anything special against Otto. Maybe not that big of a missed opportunity

surprising loss for EB
not a good start, back to back loss
26-6 ISU over Wisconsin.
That was an exciting dual meet. Congrats to ISU for a great win.
A bit surprising that all five returning AAs lost and except for Dean, they lost to lesser ranked guys.
That was not ideal. Good thing it is early.
"A bit surprising that all five returning AAs lost and except for Dean, they lost to lesser ranked guys. "
Also not good. I mean, you start at 125 and you see your top lower weight wrestlers Barnett and Gomez go down and just sets a bad tone for the whole meet and forces other wrestlers to have to take chances to win with extra points and leaves them vulnerable.
They just can't win close matches, not consistently anyways. What else can you say? I know the season's certainly not over, but nothing's changed on that front and until it does, then you don't have a top 10 program. It's that simple.
The only person happy about the Iowa st dual is Ben A. Lol
Model and Rowley.
125 Terukina 9-7 over Barnett
133 Redding 10-4 over LaMont
141 Swiderski 10-5 over Zargo
149 Johnson 9-4 over Gomez
157 Model 6-5 over Kraisser
165 Carr 7-5 over Hamiti (looked like Hamiti tweaked knee again and limped off mat)
174 Rowley 4-3 over Gaitan
184 Coleman Pins Dow
197 Bastida 5-3 over Amos
285 Schuyler 3-2 over Hillger

Wow!!! Did not see that coming!
Very Rough night. They did not wrestle well and came out flat.
They looked so strong the first two duals but Iowa State came to play and was more physical than us.
Very impressed with Rowley though, he's physical and aggressive and has a bright future.
This morning the odds of Model being the only Badger to end the day 3-0 would have made you about 200x your money. Not because Model was that much of a long shot, just that everyone expected a few of the former AAs to also run the table today.
Was the ISU outcome on not prepared? Conditioning? Mental? something else?Glad it is early and they can work on some things
I'd say mostly flat, definitely not conditioning, a couple of flukes and also ISU hit them in the mouth literally and figuratively.
Barnett had 2NF disappear from the scoreboard.
LaMont and I forget who else gave 3 TD's in first period both times the third was right at the end of period. Time awareness not the best.
Casey Sw shot and hit zargo in the nose and he bled and bled (zargo did the same later in the match and both guys had wraps on their head).
Hilger got screwed with an unfortunate event. He had the match and was in a stalemate position (each guy hanging onto ankles) and the opponents shoe came off this Hilger losing control and giving up 2 with seconds left.
Gomez just kept going big move after big move and the guy was super strong and they didn't work on him, he will be just fine.

Sounds like there should be a rule change or interpretation is needed. You should not lose because someone's shoe came off.
Should be a 1-point technical violation on the guy whose shoe came off. Improper equipment.
I thought that was a rule, apparently if it was, it no longer is :(.

It is in high school. I don't know if it is/was in college.

It was in high school but it no longer is, it's a stalling call. I'm not sure about college either though.

The guy that beat Gomez is Paniro Johnson-I believe Mitchell Mesenbrink beat him in UWW semifinals this summer. He was up 6-8 points until Mitchell game back. Amazing he is down to 149#. Great wrestler that will go deep into tourney this year. Iowa State has a few young, great wrestlers that I think many took for granted, especially in the rankings at least.
